In traditional Chinese Medicine it is classified as a cold and bitter herb which helps to fevers, coughs, phlegm and bronchitis. Anti-allergenic properties also aid with conditions such as allergic rhinitis, hay fever, asthma and eczema.
Anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties further assist gastro-intestinal infections, including those causing diarrhoea. It has also been used to treat skin conditions and circulatory problems. Some research suggests its use as weight loss aid and to treat health conditions arising from diabetes.
Anti-cancer properties may prevent and support the treatment of lung and prostate cancer.
