Botanical Name: Scutellaria Barbata
Actions: Calming and soothing, restoring and nourishing. Assists with anxiety, depression, panic attacks and other associated nervous disorders.
Description: Scullcap is commonly known as “madweed”, which comes from its old reputation for curing hydrophobia, an irrational fear of water.
Scullcap is particularly useful for any problems associated with nervous disorders, not just calming and soothing, but restoring and nourishing. For nervous exhaustion and depression, anxiety and panic attacks, and for more physical problems such as epilepsy and migraine, Scullcap is the herb of choice. For premenstrual tension it works well with Chamomile. For depression combine with St. John’s Wort or Licorice Root.
Commonly used as a herbal smoke for relaxation and calming, or readying the mind for meditation.
Herbs can be used alongside pharmaceutical drugs but care should be taken so as not to duplicate or counteract their effects.
